Log Cabins

Log cabins have a wide variety of uses and provide an alternative to extending the house. They offer additional rooms suitable as guest quarters or for use as a home office, but can also be used as shops and cafeterias.

As a general guideline, the thicker the log cabin timber, the better insulating qualities will be had. This has the added benefit of enabling the building to be used all year without accruing extortionate heating costs. The thicker timber cabins cost more initially, but will often pay for themselves as a result of the heating costs they save.

Log cabins can be considered as an additional building and can have power and water installed in the same way as a regular house.

The starter range of log cabins all have 28mm timber thickness and are suitable as a sturdy alternative to a summerhouse or shed. Then there are the medium quality timber log cabins which come in a selection of thicknesses from 34 to 45 mm timber thickness. The Eurovudas selection of 34mm log cabins come in a good variety of sizes to suit the size of your garden and budget. The next stage up is the 50-58mm log thickness where we have the Estnest, Tuin and Eurovudas range of log cabins which come in a variety of different styles from the traditional chalet to a more modern and contemporary building. The top of the range selection come in 68-70mm log thickness which offers heavy duty quality and long lasting log cabin which are ideal for use as holiday homes.

Is there a difference between wood that you can by anywhere and Hillhout wood? Most certainly, yes.

First of all the the wood for Hillhout is carefully selected. For instance, wood from Central Europe is perfect for fencing and pergolas, whereas the wood for log cabins and garden buildings, for example, comes from Scandinavia. Hillhout only processes wood that comes from areas where forest management is aiming at sustainability.

Untreated wood has to be protected against a bleak climate. Therefore our wood is preserved under high pressure, according to present regulations. Fungi and rot will not stand a chance for a long period of time because of this method. Impregnated wood does not need to be painted. In the course of time, the wood will become grey, but this does not affect the quality.

Only products that meet our strict quality requirements are allowed to leave our factory. For this purpose, we have a strict quality inspection in each production phase. Inspection of sizes, construction, checking for damages, and inspecting the correct packaging and the way it's transported.

Only when the wood has withstood all tests, can it carry the name Hillhout. With the Hillhout label you will know to have bought a good product.

Some products of the Hillhout range receive the designation 'Excellent'. They are even more beautiful as to design and quality and naturally, just as reliable as all other products from Hillhout. You can recognize the Excellent collection by this sign.

Hillhout gives a 10-year anti-rot guarantee on all wooden Hillhout products that are pressure impregnated.

Should a product nevertheless get damaged by rot within the guarantee period, it will be replaced free of charge.

Well after a week of snow it is now disappearing. Looking round the garden in winter it has a quiet enchanting effect. Although some of the snow is gone ice crystals still hang on trees and bushes. The sun is now going down and the red sky looks beautiful against the trees and my hallmark timber greenhouse.
The house extension is nearly complete and then it will be time to start on landscaping the garden. I have had several new ideas for the garden which may involve moving my water feature and summer house.
I am also thinking about installing vegetable planters and composters. I would also like some pastel coloured paving to create a calming lounge area in the garden.

New Year New Garden

Its now 2010 and for those of us who have had time off it is now back to work. This year we can think about new beginnings and most of all new gardens. I am sure many of us look around our gardens and think about what we would like to change to make it better.
This year could be the year to add more colour to your garden with exotic plants or to add a water feature. Maybe you were even thinking about garden lighting to highlight your driveway or decking areas.

I have spent today in my garden thinking of the changes I am going to make for the future. The garden looked to pretty this morning. There had been a slight sprinkling of snow that made my heather slate glisten and my scottish cobbles sparkle. Frost does amazing things to your garden. My Parana Falls Water feature had ice crystals where the water had been. The whole garden felt like I was in Narnia.

Welcome to the very first BLOG page for Anglian Garden and Building Supplies. We are a family run business based in Hardingham in the picturesque country side of Norfolk. We are also great animal lovers and share the office with 3 boxers, 1 german shepherd, 1 spaniel, 1 labrador and 2 patterdales. Things can be crazy sometimes but the main thing is we all have fun.

Tomorrow is xmas eve and I am sitting writing this blog in my garden in my warm and cosy halls sandringham summerhouse. There is frost on the windows and snow on the ground but my term 2000 heater glows in the corner as I pour myself another cup of tea and contemplate on changing my garden next year and contacting a landscape gardener.

We are travelling to my parents tomorrow but are looking forward to staying in their tuin frodo log cabin and using their victorian spa hot tub.

This time of year is special as you get to spend quality time with family and friends and in the new year we all make resolutions about things we would like to change and make better. I know that next year I am going to try and be more green and planet friendly as there is so much we can do. I am going to use composters more to get rid of household and garden waste and also try growing my own vegetables. Every little helps when it comes to saving our planet and making life better for the children of our future.
